The Supp Digest | The Cost of Optimizing Your Health

Welcome to The Digest, your guide to key insights and updates across the SuppCo community.

In this series, we'll dig into the fascinating trends SuppCo sees from our unique vantage point to help you make sense of supplements.

Your supplement stack is a long-term commitment—both to your health and to your finances. Are you getting the most out of both?

In this issue, we're diving into pricing data across the SuppCo community to help you understand what you're really paying for and how to get the most value without sacrificing quality.

BY THE NUMBERS

We analyzed over 33,500 products in SuppCo user stacks to determine which supplements are weighing on your wallet.

The most expensive product currently in the SuppCo database on a price per serving basis? Optimum Nutrition's Serious Mass weight-gain powder, coming in at an impressive $7.75 per serving.

Optimum Nutrition’s protein powder doesn’t stand alone. In fact, the most expensive product categories in the SuppCo database include:

But not all categories come with a $1.00+ per serving price tag. Less expensive categories include:

The price ranges across categories may come as little surprise. After all, the nutrient make-up of a pre-workout powder is inherently different from a Vitamin-D capsule. But the price variance within categories? Now that might just raise an eyebrow.

ARE YOU PAYING TOO MUCH?

SuppCo users average 7-8 products in their stack, and those supplements can really add up. Looking across 60,000+ user stacks, the average monthly stack cost comes in at $172. That's per month!

Let’s revisit some of those product categories from above:

  • While pre-workout supplements average $1.50 per serving, the most expensive pre-workout powder in the SuppCo database is $2.86 per serving. If you take pre-workout daily, you could save $500 per year by switching to a product at the average price.

  • Those extra dollars can even come into play for lower-cost product categories. Take biotin: the most expensive biotin product in our database is $1.33 per serving versus the average of $0.15. That’s another $430 out the window per year (assuming daily use).

So, are you paying too much? The tricky business about supplements is that price isn't the only dimension you need to consider. Quality varies widely, and higher quality products are often more expensive.

It's a true Goldilocks problem: you want to find high-quality supplements without overpaying. You're looking for that "just right" purchase.

SUPPCO CAN HELP

We created our (over 200k) product database specifically with an eye for value. Our Product Research hub combines pricing data with SuppCo's proprietary Product TrustScore to make it easier than ever to find high-quality products that don't break the bank.

You can now find a Best Value pick in each supplement category in the Product Research hub. These Best Value picks all pass the quality test with a Product TrustScore of at least 8 (Very Good) while also having a price per serving lower than their peers.
